Holiday Sussex

One of the things I love about Sussex is the variety of places to visit.  You can enjoy a walk by the seaside in one hour and yet be in a rural setting - perhaps watching some racing at Fontwell - the next.  We love walking our dog along the Sussex Downs (pictured below with me), where you get a fine view of the English Channel from one side, and the Sussex countryside on the other.  The Sussex Downs are fantastic, because you never know what you'll see there.

You can enjoy many hours...
  • strolling through woodland & enjoying the sight of the bluebells in April - there are some great bluebell displays close to...
  • visiting the Lurgashall Winery  - have a taste - the Elderflower is my favourite
  • exploring Sussex villages & Sussex towns such as Midhurst (described by English Heritage as "a hidden jewel" - get off the main street and discover the back lanes)
  • buying clothes for my father in the historic town of Petworth in Allens Mens Clothing Store, plus browsing lots of antique shops - check out Petworth Antique Centre
  • window-shopping & people watching in cities such as Chichester or Brighton
  • discovering the little old cottages in the older part of Shoreham by Sea, just off the sea front
  • getting absolutely immersed in the rare & second hand book shops in Lewes - which also has the Anne of Cleves House
  • enjoying the relaxing roll of the sea on the pebbly beach at the Witterings
  • wondering through Horsham with its bandstand & square makes for an enjoyable afternoon's stroll
  • visiting the llama park at Ashdown Forest & talking a wintry afternoon walk in Ashdown Forest itself
  • playing Pooh Sticks & touring Pooh Country in Hartfield - did you know that there are World Pooh Sticks Championships in Oxfordshire in 2010?

Petworth House also has an amazing deer park,
and a wonderful collection of paintings by
Turner, Van Eyck, Reynolds  & Blake
